For the past decade, I have served as independent or in-house counsel for a multitude of private businesses, developers, non-profit entities, and local and regional governments throughout the states of Kansas and Missouri. The scope of my representation has been comprehensive, working extensively in the fields of land use and planning, real estate transactions and finance, construction law, business and non-profit entity formation and operation, public incentives, employment law and human resource management, contracts and bidding, constitutional law, liability and multi-million-dollar complex litigation in state and federal courts.
In addition to representing and consulting with a number of businesses and commercial and residential developers, my current local and regional clients represented include the Wichita Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, the South Central Kansas Regional Economic Area Partnership, Local Workforce Development Boards in Kansas Areas I (Western Kansas), IV (Wichita) and V (Southeastern Kansas) and the cities of Andale, Augusta, Cheney, Clearwater and Viola, Kansas. I also regularly consult with governmental entities throughout the State of Kansas.
I earned my Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from Washburn University School of Law. After completing law school, I obtained an advanced Master of Law (L.L.M.) degree in Urban Affairs from the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Law, with courses in real estate transactions and finance, construction law, planning and zoning, public/private economic development partnerships, employment law and state and local government law. Thereafter, I completed a Doctorate of Law (S.J.D.) at the University of Kansas School of Law studying residential and commercial development across the United States, including the impact and lawfulness of governmental land-use regulation and taxation as well as residential and commercial site location.
My experience, education and research has provided me the opportunity to expand my exposure regionally and nationally through service on the Land Use and Zoning Committee of the American Bar Association’s Section on State and Local Government Law. I have also provided multiple regional and national presentations sponsored by various organizations including the American Bar Association, the Council of Development Finance Agencies/BNY Mellon Bank, the International Association of Assessing Officers, the National Business Institute, Wichita State University and Lorman Education Services.
